No delay this time! It was released alongside the release of QPR2 itself
We really need an open source mobile operating system that isn’t controlled by tech megacorps.
Android is far too compromised by corporate profit motives.
-
it helps network operators identify tether traffic and prevents it from being hidden by the systems VPN.
-
it facilitates vendor pre installed adware, bloat ware, and malware that can’t be uninstalled
-
it facilitates carrier locking to prevent users from switching carriers
I mean it is open source and you can go with something like lineage or graphineos to get around those things
Points 2 and 3 and just innate to the project, not something that can be fixed in a custom ROM. Point 1 is not something any of those projects choose to fix, you need to either root or use a particular ROM to get around that because of how baked into the network stack those limitations are.
They’re still ultimately reliant on Google.
Graphene is hamstrung by google refusing to release patches for months at a time
Graphene is the only rom not hamstrung by thay issue because they have OEM access. They had QPR1 code before most anyone else did. Im not a huge fan of the project but, credit where its due i dont think theyre going anywhere.

That’s good
But the source code carries a terrible curse.
That’s bad.
But it comes with a free frozen yogurt!
The frogurt contains potassium benzoate.
…can I have my custom ROM now?
For sure. It’s kind of weirdly not evil, though, being it’s Google and all…
They’ve woven Android so deep into open-source projects, there are likely legal commitments they have to slowly back out of, similar to how Qualcomm once drove CodeAurora Forums (https://bye.codeaurora.org/). Don’t worry, they’ll get there. This time window has to be used for designing an escape hatch to something just Linux-based.
Maybe they’ve learned their lesson? Haha?
