the handshake meme, on one side liberals talking about Ukraine. on the other, conservatives talking about a mass shooter. the handshake “that swastika tattoo doesn’t necessarily mean he was a Nazi”

Does this meme imply otherwise? /gen

I don’t see anything denying that Russia itself doesn’t have a fascist infestation, just points to western hypocrisy as far as I understand it

Not defending western hypocrisy in general, but I support self-determination over military invasions. Most imperialist adventures were justified by claiming that the invaded nation was somehow bad enough to deserve it and it has always been bullshit.

I don’t disagree with you, it’s just that enthusiastic liberals love to gloss over issues like relatively widespread corruption and fascist elements in Ukraine. Also Ukraine doesn’t have a white west in terms of war crimes either (Amnesty International reported on that IIRC).
What I mean to say is: uncritical, blind support is a big blunder IMO

Most imperialist adventures were justified by claiming that the invaded nation was somehow bad enough to deserve it and it has always been bullshit.

Exactly, it’s basically what I said in my other comment.

What is the liberals talking about Ukraine part in reference to? Tbh I haven’t really seen much of either libs defending any potential Nazis in Ukraine, or much discission of Ukraine having a back problem since relatively early in war with the azov battalion and Russia claiming they were fighting Nazis

since Ukraine was under authoritarian occupation by the USSR, many saw the nazi invasion as liberation. After the USSR took it back over, nazi symbology was outlawed, and taken up as anti-USSR symbols without the ideology.
Some of that stuck around and to many of the people there with some nazi tattoo, it means, “fuck Russia”.
i don’t know how many of them are actually nazis, but i’ve heard pretty much none of them… and it’s all hardcore anti-russia. (they were occupied by the USSR for another 50 years… grudges).
