I don’t know if this counts, but when I was in grad school I had a Tinder date set up at a local pub. I got food poisoning the night before. The “fireworks” ended around 1-2 am and I felt confident enough to go to sleep a couple hours later.

By the time I woke up the next morning, I felt that I could at least meet up for a couple of beers and chat. Plus, I figured telling her I got food poisoning would sound like an excuse to weasel out of the date.

I ended up sitting outside the pub to meet up for a half hour. She never showed up, and I finally gave up asking if she’d show up a couple of times.

That information becomes less value the older it is. If you go dark all of a sudden tomorrow, that information will be worth a small fraction in a year. And there’s the old saying: “The best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago. The second best time is now.”

Technically, this isn’t even a case of religion going crazy. The flat Earth conspiracy actually started out in the German Nazi party and were eventually pushed out because even the Nazis thought they were too crazy.

Notice how many of them mention a vague “they” as the ones maintaining the conspiracy. That’s them referring to Jewish people. While this is notmal for most conspiracy theories, few directly originated from the Nazis.
