I go eat at McDonald’s a lot and almost every time I can hear the staff call out an order number which is ready, but nobody comes to pick it up.
Why would you pay for food only to run off then?
I’m in Germany, in case that’s relevant.
The chaos in one’s life that brings a person to McDonald’s continues while still at McDonald’s.
Sorry, I died
RIP in peace
Welcome to the Department of Redundancies Department!
How can we help you‽
- order food
- Hear a number
- take my food
- back to car, it’s not mine
- fuck off, I’m too lazy to go change my order
- some dude is still waiting for It’s order while you write this post
Happened to me once when I was 14. I ordered a hotdog and thought I heard my name (this place did orders by customer name) and picked it up. It was a hotdog but I didn’t remember ordering the particular toppings. I also ordered a vegan hotdog specifically. As I was eating it I gradually became more and more sure this wasn’t my order—I didn’t remember ordering these toppings and I thought this seemed like a pork hotdog. But then I felt too awkward to go back to the counter after having eaten half of it already. Sorry to whoever’s hotdog I ate.
Might be that they ordered online and the food is done before they get there?
Right. And there are totally places that quote bogus pick-up times. If you order enough from there, you learn whether to come early or late lol
The last time I went to McDonald’s all the kiosks printed blank receipts. No one knew what number they were.
Here we often don’t get receipts at all. The kiosk also shows the number on the screen, but for some reason they designed the UX so that when it can’t print a receipt the number is only shown for a fraction of a second before it’s hidden by a message saying “unfortunately we can’t print a receipt right now”.
As a developer myself it makes me feel like I want to stab whoever thought this was good enough.

Eh, they probably outsourced it to some firm that’s paying the devs McDonald’s wages at best. I wouldn’t try that hard for that little money either.
Once I ordered online via their app and hadn’t noticed that it defaulted to a different location than the one I normal visit. When I got to the usual place to pick it up and they didn’t have my order, I realized my mistake. It would have been a major hassle to drive across town to pick it up, so I just left it go and ordered again from where I was currently.
Are you sure they don’t come collect it after you leave?
I ordered online Jersey Mike’s (sandwich chain restaurant) on my lunch break at a new job, then walked a mile in the opposite direction towards a Jimmy Johns (another sandwich chain restaurant) and wasted my entire lunch break waiting on my food that was never going to be at the wrong restaurant.
I fell the fuck asleep once on a $25 uber eats order. It was the second time I’ve done that. First time I vaguely remember grabbing it and sleep eating the hell out of it. But it still counts as forgetting. I saved my ass on that one in my sleep.
Yeah more times then I’d like to admit I’ve had to go outside to get my food from the front gate after I’ve fallen asleep waiting for it.
The good thing about uber food here is its all crap that can sit outside for hours and not go bad
Got a friend who work late shift. Two or Three weeks ago he awoke with a UberEat bag at his door, forgot completely about it and got to sleep.
So I’ll say : they forgot
I’ve done this with Lyft. I request something in the app but then I get distracted with something and completely forget.
Depending on the location (mostly motorway services), I will often do something else before picking up food. E.g. go wash my hands properly. I’ve been known to misjudge the time required and be a minute or 2 late. Sometimes the wait can be long enough that I will go sit down for a bit. Again, I sometimes misjudge.
Im more surprised people eat at mcdonalds than hearing about leaving their food. :)
ADHD?
Have been guilty of this when placing an online order, one time I simply forgot, the other time an obligation presented itself and I didn’t have time to go out of my way and pick it up. As for ordering at the counter and abandoning, IDK. Could be having to run for some urgent matter, but I’d agree it happens way too often to be just that.
